Cyber attacks on public servers and database will increase

The growth in the Indian IT system has increased the digital data repository. This rise in the amount of data has also increased the number of cyberattacks and therefore government and official cybersecurity authorities are implementing stringent security rules. The government is investing largely in the IT, banking and government administration section.

We know that public servers are protected with 3-4 layers of security protection. However, there are cyber thieves who manage to get into the system and invade the data.

Understanding the criticality of the data and the severity of the cyberthreats, the government is now taking a step to advance its prevailing cybersecurity.

The threats are still not put away. There can be an attack anytime, especially when the government is busy fighting some other issues. In a pandemic such as the COVID-19, data is much more vulnerable to threat.

  • Kundankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP), witnessed a cyberattack in the October 29, 2019 The damage was in the form of data theft, the same data can be used to enhance future attacks on the power plant.
  • ISRO faced attacks prior to the Chandrayan 2 mission.
  • India-based healthcare website was attacked in 2019, medical records and information of 68 million patients and doctors were stolen.
